Business Card Etiquette

In business world, simply having a business and business card is not sufficient. With a business card comes a responsibility of showing appropriate business card etiquettes. By business card etiquettes, we do not just mean that you require observing sense and decency when handing out the business cards, rather it also means that you behave suave in manner when accepting a business card offered by other. While most of us do not pay any heed to these business card etiquettes, when traveling in high society, it becomes mandatory to have knowledge of the same.

One of the most common and best ways of doing the same is to always stop by for a minute to observe the business card being offered to you. Comment on an unusual or usual info mentioned on in the card or compliment if the card is nice and beautiful. A little show of interest in the business card being offered to you will show in return your interest in the person’s business, thus amounting to politeness.
Then again, getting complete information on the background of your prospective clients or society will help you maintaining the business card etiquette. For example, in the western society, playing tricks and gimmicks with business cards might go down well. However, Japanese clients might not take too kindly on the card tricks, taking them as foolhardy and nonsensical. Then again, when exchanging the business cards, make sure you use your right hand when receiving or handing out the business cards, for the Muslims might take it as an offence if done otherwise.
One must never impose their business cards on people, especially when these people are your seniors or higher up the ladder. Wait till you are asked for a business card or someone is taking interest in your business before handing out your business card tot hem. After all, simply throwing away your card will not be beneficial for either – no utilization and loss of the printing costs!
